Double Chocolate Banana Bread Recipe

Double Chocolate Banana Bread

Hello again! Yes, I know it’s been QUITE a while since I’ve posted a recipe and I do have a very good reason for that: pregnancy. I have to say; morning sickness is no joke. For about 4 months, the last thing I wanted to think about was food… let alone preparing it, writing about it, smelling it or taking pictures of it. I wanted to be as far away from food as possible. But now that I’m past the hard part, I can finally get back to cooking and even better, EATING! What better way to open up a pregnant lady’s appetite than this delicious Double Chocolate Banana Bread recipe.

Double Chocolate Banana Bread

Unlike my usual go-to Banana Bread or my Vegan Banana Bread, this recipe doesn’t hold back! It’s got sugar, it’s got chocolate, it’s got butter and much more. I decided to cut the restrictions and finally make a banana bread recipe that will satisfy my chocolatey cravings times two.

SOUR CREAM FOR EXTRA RICHNESS

The ingredients in this double chocolate banana bread are simple, but I think what gives it such a rich texture and taste is the addition of sour cream. It adds an extra level of “fluffiness” to the batter which helps the banana bread bake to perfection every time. And just a little note that Greek yogurt works just as well as sour cream in this recipe if you’re looking for a substitution!

WHAT MAKES THIS BANANA BREAD DOUBLE CHOCOLATE?

The heaping 1/2 cup of baking cocoa adds the initial base of chocolate flavor to this banana bread. But the addition of chocolate chips inside AND on top of the banana bread is the double-chocolate bonus we all need! It’s always a nice surprise to take a bite out of something that has “hidden” chocolate chips in it. The chocolate chips compliment the fluffy banana bread perfectly and add that “double chocolate” flavor to the final product. Not to mention, they just look great aesthetically.

My favorite part about this bread is that it bakes so evenly and flawlessly. Every oven is different, but for me, 1 hour has always been the exact amount of time needed to ensure the bread cooks through perfectly. This Double Chocolate Banana Bread recipe hasn’t let me down yet and I hope it meets your expectations as well! Read on for the full recipe.
