Holiday Puppy Chow With M&Ms Recipe

Holiday Puppy Chow

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Which means it’s time to give some of my dessert recipes a holiday makeover. I’m actually considering creating a new category on my website dedicated completely to holiday recipes. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day and of course Christmas.  Let me know if this is something you guys would be interested in seeing as an addition to my blog. In the meantime, you should definitely give this Holiday Puppy Chow recipe a try!

Holiday Puppy Chow

Classic puppy chow requires only FOUR ingredients. Peanut butter, chocolate chips, Chex cereal and powdered sugar. And, as you can see from the pictures, it’s also incredibly EASY to transform it into a nice holiday treat. All you do is add a bag of red and green M&Ms! You can also add crushed candy canes for some diversity in appearance and taste.

Holiday Puppy Chow

I can’t emphasize enough how easy and fast this dessert is to put together! It’ll probably take you about 10 minutes from start to finish. It also stores really well for several days in an airtight container or even a Ziploc bag. This makes it a great choice for holiday mason jar gifts. Just slap a red bow on it and you’ve got yourself a lovely Christmas treat for your family and friends. Hope you all have fun making this Holiday Puppy Chow Recipe! Classic Puppy Chow combines with red & green M&Ms to make a lovely holiday treat!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup smooth peanut butter

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 14 oz box Chex cereal (or any other brand of square corn cereal)

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 10 oz bag red and green M&Ms

  • Crushed candy canes (optional)

Directions

  • Add the peanut butter and chocolate chips to a small pot
  • Heat on low-medium, stirring continuously for about 3 minutes or until completely melted and smooth
  • In a large bowl, add the Chex cereal. Pour the melted peanut butter chocolate mixture all over the Chex cereal
  • Stir with a spoon until the cereal is completely covered in chocolate (see above pictures for reference)
  • To coat with powdered sugar, you can do one of two things: 1) Either transfer the chocolate covered cereal to a large plastic bag, add the powdered sugar, close the bag tight and shake until all the cereal is coated well with powdered sugar. 2) OR, you can use a large bowl with a fitted lid (which is what I did). Add the powdered sugar to the bowl with the cereal, cover with the lid and shake the bowl all around until cereal is completely coated
  • Lastly, add the red and green M&Ms and stir with a spoon until mixed in well (you can add any other toppings you like at this point as well)
  • Store in an airtight container or Ziploc bag at room temperature
