Tofu & Broccoli Stir Fry Recipe

Tofu & Broccoli Stir Fry

Believe it or not but tofu is actually one of my favorite things to eat. I know a lot of people think it’s “flavorless” and boring. But that’s the great thing about tofu: it pretty much takes up the flavor of whatever you put on it. So really, it’s not boring at all, it’s got MANY possibilities. One of which is this delicious Tofu & Broccoli Stir Fry!

The first step in this recipe is the most important step. Making sure you drain as much water out of your tofu as possible is critical to ensuring it keeps its flavor. Otherwise, whatever you put on it will be diluted by the excess water. You’ll have to put the tofu block on top of several paper towels (3-4) and then cover with an additional layer of paper towels. Place something heavy on top such as a cast iron skillet or some heavy canned goods. Let it sit like this for about 30 minutes to ensure lots of water is soaked up by the paper towels.

A simple, savory Tofu & Broccoli Stir Fry that’s healthy and so flavorful!

Ingredients

  • Two 16 oz packages of Extra Firm Tofu

  • 4 cups broccoli florets

  • 1/8 cup hoisin sauce

  • 1 ½ Tbs soy sauce

  • 1 Tbs minced garlic

  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 2 Tbs olive oil

Directions

  • First, prepare the tofu. Place 3 paper towels on a flat surface and put the tofu blocks on top. Place another 3 paper towels on top of the tofu. Cover with something heavy like a large cast iron skillet. Let sit for about 30 minutes to drain as much water out as possible
  • Once the tofu is done draining, chop it up into bite sized cubes
  • In a large bowl mix the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, garlic and red pepper flakes
  • Add the tofu into the bowl and stir until all the tofu is coated well. You can let sit for 10-20 minutes to allow the sauce to soak into the tofu for better flavor
  • Heat the olive oil on medium in a large skillet
  • Add the tofu and increase heat to medium-high. Cook until slightly brown all around, stirring often
  • Add the broccoli florets and heat to your desired consistency (I like crunchy broccoli, so I cooked for only about 5 minutes)
  • Serve on rice and enjoy!
